About this calculator
This calculator converts a tempo in beats per minute to note durations in milliseconds, starting from the fact that a quarter note (one beat) lasts 60000 ÷ BPM ms. Every other common note value is a simple multiple or fraction of that: a whole note is 4× the quarter-note length, a half note 2×, an eighth note ½×, a sixteenth ¼×, and a dotted note is its base value times 1.5.
Music producers and sound designers use it to set delay, reverb pre-delay and LFO rates so an effect lands exactly in rhythm with a track's tempo instead of drifting — a delay set to the eighth-note value at 120 BPM, for example, echoes precisely on the off-beats. Film and game audio designers use the same math to sync musical stingers to a fixed BPM cue.
