About this calculator

A membership break-even calculation compares the fixed cost of a recurring membership (a gym, pool, climbing wall or club) against the price of paying per visit, to find the number of monthly visits at which the two options cost exactly the same. Below that visit count, drop-in pricing is cheaper; above it, the membership pays for itself and every additional visit is essentially free.

People run this math before committing to an annual or monthly membership because gyms and clubs are notorious for overselling memberships that go largely unused — studies on gym attendance consistently show many members visit far less often than they expect to when they sign up. Knowing your personal break-even visit count turns a vague “it feels like a good deal” into a concrete threshold you can check your actual attendance against.

This calculator takes the membership fee, the single-visit drop-in price, and how often you realistically go, and returns your break-even number of visits along with the monthly savings (or loss) at your actual usage rate.
