About this calculator

The CPM goal calculator works backward from a target cost per acquisition (CPA) to find the maximum cost per thousand impressions (CPM) a media buyer can afford to pay and still hit that CPA. Because CPA depends on how many impressions turn into clicks (click-through rate) and how many clicks turn into conversions (conversion rate), the affordable CPM is: target CPA × CTR × conversion rate × 1000.

Performance marketers and media buyers use this calculation before setting bid caps in ad platforms like Google Ads, Meta or programmatic exchanges, because bidding above the affordable CPM guarantees the campaign misses its CPA target even if every other assumption holds. It also shows the required impression volume and budget for a given number of target conversions, which is essential for planning campaign spend ahead of launch.

This calculator takes your target CPA along with your expected CTR and conversion rate, and returns the CPM ceiling, the impressions needed and the budget required to hit your goal.
