About this calculator

dBµV (decibel-microvolt) is a logarithmic voltage scale referenced to 1 microvolt, defined as dBµV = 20 × log₁₀(V / 1µV), which rearranges to V = 1µV × 10^(dBµV/20). Working in decibels lets engineers express an enormous dynamic range — from a barely-detectable microvolt signal to a strong volt-level one — as manageable numbers, and lets them add or subtract gain/loss stages arithmetically instead of multiplying voltage ratios.

RF and broadcast engineers use dBµV constantly to specify antenna signal strength, TV and FM field-strength measurements, and receiver sensitivity thresholds, since spectrum analyzers and EMC test equipment typically read out signal levels directly in dBµV rather than volts.
