About this calculator

Decimal odds (also called European odds) show the total payout per unit staked, including the original stake — a decimal of 2.50 means a $10 bet returns $25. American odds (moneyline) instead show either how much profit a $100 bet would make (a positive number like +150) or how much must be staked to profit $100 (a negative number like -200). The conversion splits on whether the decimal odds are above or below 2.00: for decimal odds of 2.00 or higher, American = (decimal − 1) × 100; for decimal odds below 2.00, American = −100 ÷ (decimal − 1).

Sports bettors, bookmakers, and odds-comparison sites use this conversion because different regions and platforms default to different formats — European and Asian markets typically quote decimal odds, while sportsbooks in the United States quote American odds almost exclusively. Being able to move between the two lets someone compare prices across sites or read odds from a source that only publishes one format.
