About this calculator

This calculator estimates glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using the four-variable MDRD (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease) equation, which combines serum creatinine with age, sex, and race to approximate how many milliliters of blood your kidneys filter per minute.

Nephrologists, primary care doctors, and lab technicians use eGFR to stage chronic kidney disease and track how kidney function changes over time, since a single creatinine value on its own says little without accounting for a person's age and muscle mass. It is also a routine number on basic metabolic panels that patients see on lab reports.
