About this calculator

A kite is a quadrilateral with two pairs of adjacent sides equal in length, and its diagonals always meet at a right angle. This gives a simple area formula, A = (d₁ · d₂) / 2, identical in form to the rhombus area formula, since a rhombus is a special case of a kite where all four sides are equal.

This formula works because the diagonals divide the kite into four right triangles whose combined area simplifies to half the product of the diagonal lengths — the same reasoning applies to any quadrilateral with perpendicular diagonals.

Geometry students solving quadrilateral area problems, crafters and hobbyists designing actual kites or kite-shaped patterns for quilting and mosaics, and engineers or designers working with kite-shaped panels or components all use this calculator by entering the two diagonal lengths.
