About this calculator

The nth root of a number x is the value that, raised to the power n, returns x, computed directly as x^(1/n). The familiar square root is simply the case where n = 2 and the cube root where n = 3, but the same exponentiation rule extends to any positive integer degree, letting you invert any power.

Beyond pure arithmetic, nth roots are the mechanism behind compound annual growth rate (CAGR) calculations in finance, where an n-year total growth factor must be resolved by taking its nth root to find the equivalent constant annual rate, and behind engineering and physics scaling laws, such as period-versus-length relationships in pendulums or metabolic scaling laws that use non-integer roots and exponents.

Enter a number and the desired root degree n, and this calculator returns the nth root instantly.
