About this calculator
This ratio divides net working capital by net sales: NWC-to-Sales = (Current Assets − Current Liabilities) ÷ Net Sales. It answers a narrower question than the current ratio alone — not just whether a company is liquid, but how much working capital it must tie up to support each dollar of revenue it generates.
Financial analysts compare this ratio across companies in the same industry to spot which ones run "leaner" — a retailer with fast inventory turnover and quick customer payments can support high sales with relatively little working capital, while a manufacturer with long production cycles typically needs much more. A rising ratio over time can signal that growth is starting to strain liquidity, since sales are outpacing the cash and receivables backing them.
