About this calculator

The modern typographic (DTP/PostScript) point, standardized in the 1980s and used by virtually all page-layout and design software today, is fixed at exactly 1 point = 1/72 inch = 0.3527778 mm. This is distinct from the older, slightly larger Anglo-American printer's point (1/72.27 inch) and the European Didot point (0.376 mm), which is worth knowing if you're reconciling measurements against historical print specifications.

Graphic designers, typesetters, and print-production staff work in points for font sizes and layout spacing on screen, but need this conversion whenever a design has to be reproduced at a precise physical size — checking that a logo or business card element matches a printer's millimetre spec, or translating a print brief given in millimetres back into point-based software settings.
