Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) is a single-scale, 1 to 16.5 rating that lets players of any age, gender, or nationality be compared on one number, calculated by Universal Tennis’s algorithm from the outcomes and score-lines of a player’s actual matches against other rated opponents — not from tournament results or rankings points. The official algorithm weighs the strength of each opponent (their own UTR), the margin of victory, and match recency, dropping outlier results.

This calculator provides a simplified estimate rather than the full algorithm: it takes the player’s average opponent UTR and the percentage of games won across recent matches, and adjusts the opponent average up or down based on how far above or below 50% that win rate sits, then clamps the result to the valid 1–16.5 scale. Players and coaches use an estimate like this to gauge where a player’s rating is likely trending between official updates, or to sanity-check the official number, since UTR is widely used by college coaches for recruiting and by tournament directors for seeding and flight assignment.
