About this calculator

The tip a customer leaves is not always the amount a server walks away with: many US states let employers deduct the actual credit-card processing fee (typically 2–4%) from a tip paid by card, and most restaurants also require a tip-out — a percentage shared with bussers, bartenders, and hosts. Net pay is what remains after both are subtracted from the original tip.

Servers use this to sanity-check their paycheck and understand what they actually earn per shift after fees and tip pooling, and restaurant managers use the same math to explain payroll deductions. This calculator takes the tip amount, the card processing fee percentage, and the tip-out percentage you enter and returns the true net amount the server keeps.
