About this calculator

This calculator finds the nth triangular number using the formula T(n) = n(n+1)/2 — the sum of all whole numbers from 1 up to n, and the same count you'd get by stacking dots into a triangle with n dots on each side. T(1)=1, T(2)=3, T(3)=6, and so on.

Math students use it for number theory and combinatorics homework, and programmers use triangular numbers when counting handshakes in a group, pairs in a round-robin tournament, or the number of cells below a diagonal in a grid. Enter n to get the triangular number instantly.
