This calculator divides total wall area by the coverage of a single roll (standard rolls cover about 5m² / 56 square feet, though the tool lets you enter your specific roll's dimensions) and rounds up to the nearest whole roll, adding a waste allowance of roughly 10-15% to account for pattern matching and trimming at ceiling and floor edges.

DIY homeowners and decorators pricing out a renovation before buying materials use this to avoid the two common mistakes: under-buying and finding rolls are a different dye lot when they go back for more, or over-buying and having expensive patterned rolls left over. Door and window openings can be subtracted from the total area for a more precise count.
