About this calculator
Wei is the smallest, indivisible unit of ether on Ethereum — analogous to a satoshi in Bitcoin — with 1 ether = 10¹⁸ wei defined directly in the protocol, and the intermediate unit gwei (“giga-wei”) = 10⁹ wei sitting exactly halfway between them on the log scale.
Smart-contract and dApp developers work in wei internally because Solidity has no native decimals, but humans read balances in ether and quote gas prices in gwei, so converting between the three is a routine part of building and debugging any Ethereum transaction or gas-fee estimate.
