About this calculator

Fitting business cards onto a print sheet is a rectangle-packing problem: for a sheet of width W and height H and a card of width w and height h, the count in one orientation is ⌊W/w⌋ × ⌊H/h⌋, and since rotating the cards 90° often fits more (or fewer) onto the same sheet, the calculation checks both orientations and keeps whichever packs more cards without waste.

This is exactly the layout logic print shops and design software use when imposing multiple business cards (commonly 3.5" × 2" or 85mm × 55mm) onto standard sheet sizes like US Letter or A4 before cutting, since printing the wrong grid wastes paper, ink, and cutting time on a job that's often produced in bulk.

Small business owners printing their own cards at home, graphic designers setting up print-ready templates, and print shop operators quoting jobs by the sheet all use this calculation to know exactly how many sheets a run of 100, 250, or 500 cards will require.
