About this calculator

The carpet tile calculator divides your room's floor area by the area of a single carpet tile — commonly 50×50 cm (about 24×24 in) — to get the base tile count, then adds a waste allowance, typically 5–10%, to cover cuts around doorways, alcoves, and edges where full tiles won't fit.

Because carpet tiles (also called carpet squares) are sold and priced per box of a fixed count, underestimating leaves you short mid-installation with a possible dye-lot mismatch on the reorder, while overestimating wastes money on unused stock. Flooring contractors, office-fitout installers, and DIY homeowners use this calculator before ordering to land on the right box quantity, factoring in the specific tile size and the room's layout complexity.
