About this calculator

A raw class rank — like “42nd out of 310” — is hard to interpret on its own without knowing the class size, and impossible to compare across schools of different sizes. Converting it to a percentile using the formula (class size minus rank) divided by class size, times 100, restates the same standing as “what percentage of the class you outrank,” a figure that's directly comparable regardless of how big the class is.

This calculator takes your rank and your class size and returns your percentile standing. It's commonly used by students and counselors preparing college applications, since many admissions systems and scholarship criteria ask for or benefit from a percentile figure rather than a raw rank out of a school-specific class size.
