About this calculator

When trading crypto with leverage, an exchange forces the position closed — liquidates it — once losses eat through the trader's margin enough that the exchange can no longer guarantee it can recover the borrowed funds. This calculator estimates that liquidation price for an isolated-margin long or short position using your entry price, leverage multiple, and maintenance margin rate, showing exactly how far the price can move against you before the exchange steps in.

Higher leverage dramatically shrinks the distance between entry price and liquidation price — a 20x position can be liquidated by a much smaller adverse move than a 3x position on the same asset. Leveraged traders use this calculation before opening a position to size it appropriately and set stop-losses well ahead of the point of forced liquidation, since liquidation typically wipes out the entire margin posted to the position.
