About this calculator
The FINDRISC (Finnish Diabetes Risk Score) questionnaire estimates the probability of developing type 2 diabetes within 10 years using eight simple, self-reportable factors — age, BMI, waist circumference, physical activity level, daily vegetable/fruit intake, history of blood-pressure medication use, history of elevated blood glucose, and family history of diabetes — each assigned points that sum to a total score, typically ranging from 0 to 26.
Developed in Finland and validated across multiple populations, FINDRISC is widely used in primary care and public health screening because, unlike a blood test, it requires no lab work — a score above roughly 15 is generally considered high risk and prompts a recommendation for actual glucose testing, while a low score reassures without needing to draw blood in a low-risk person. It’s designed as a screening filter to prioritize who gets tested, not a diagnostic tool on its own.
This calculator takes your age, BMI, waist circumference, activity level and family/medical history and returns your FINDRISC score along with its risk category.
