About this calculator

The Dynamic International Prognostic Scoring System (DIPSS) assigns points for five factors in primary myelofibrosis: age over 65 (1 point), white blood cell count over 25×10⁹/L (1 point), hemoglobin under 10 g/dL (2 points), circulating blood blasts of 1% or more (1 point), and the presence of constitutional symptoms like fever, weight loss, or night sweats (1 point). The total score sorts patients into four risk groups — low, intermediate-1, intermediate-2, and high — each with a distinct predicted median survival.

Hematologists and oncologists use the DIPSS score to estimate prognosis at any point during the disease course (unlike the original IPSS, which is only validated at diagnosis) and to guide decisions such as the timing of allogeneic stem cell transplantation, the only currently curative treatment for myelofibrosis.
