About this calculator

The Eisenhower Matrix is a time-management framework that sorts tasks into four quadrants based on two axes — urgency and importance: Q1 (urgent & important, “do first”), Q2 (important but not urgent, “schedule”), Q3 (urgent but not important, “delegate”), and Q4 (neither, “eliminate”). This calculator takes your total weekly hours and the percentage of time you estimate falls into each urgent/important combination, then splits your actual hours across the four quadrants so you can see the split in concrete numbers rather than abstract percentages.

Popularized in productivity literature (the framework is attributed to a quote from President Dwight D. Eisenhower), this matrix is widely taught in time-management training and productivity coaching specifically to highlight how little time most people actually spend in Q2 — important, non-urgent work like planning, skill-building, and relationship maintenance — the quadrant most associated with long-term effectiveness, but the easiest to crowd out with Q1 firefighting and Q3 busywork.
