About this calculator

Comparing fuel costs across an electric and a gasoline vehicle means normalizing both to cost per mile (or per year): for the EV, cost/mile = (kWh consumed per 100 miles ÷ 100) × electricity price per kWh; for the gas car, cost/mile = (gallons per 100 miles ÷ 100) × price per gallon, derived from its fuel economy in MPG. Multiplying each by annual mileage gives the yearly fuel spend for both, and the difference is the projected savings.

This calculator takes your annual driving distance, each vehicle's efficiency, and local electricity and gas prices, then compares the two yearly fuel costs. Car shoppers weighing an EV against a comparable gas model use it to see how many years of driving it takes for fuel savings to offset a higher EV purchase price, while fleet managers use the same comparison across many vehicles to build the business case for electrifying a delivery or service fleet.
