About this calculator

Pediatric guidelines estimate a healthy infant's daily formula needs at roughly 150-200 mL per kilogram of body weight (about 2.5 oz per pound), a rule of thumb used from the newborn period through the first several months before solids are introduced. That daily total is then typically split across 6-8 feeds a day for younger infants, tapering to fewer, larger feeds as the baby grows and their stomach capacity increases.

Pediatricians, lactation consultants and new parents use this math to sanity-check whether a baby is getting enough — persistently underfeeding can slow weight gain, while consistently overshooting the range can lead to excessive weight gain or discomfort — though it's always a starting estimate to discuss with a pediatrician rather than a rigid rule, since appetite, growth spurts and individual metabolism vary.

This calculator takes your baby's weight and returns the estimated daily formula volume and the amount per feed based on how many feeds you enter.
