About this calculator
Morse code represents letters and digits as sequences of dots and dashes (short and long signals), a system developed in the 1830s–40s for telegraph communication that remains in use today in amateur radio, aviation and maritime distress signaling (like SOS), and as an accessibility tool. This calculator translates plain text into Morse code or decodes Morse back into readable letters A–Z and digits 0–9.
It's used by amateur radio (ham) operators studying for licensing exams, scouting and military history enthusiasts, and hobbyists learning or practicing the code, as well as anyone decoding a Morse message encountered in puzzles, media, or historical documents. Despite being over 180 years old, Morse remains relevant precisely because it can be transmitted through the simplest possible signal — a single on/off tone, light, or click.
