About this calculator

In a business partnership, profit is not always split evenly — most partnership agreements specify each partner's share as an ownership percentage, which may reflect capital contributed, work performed, or whatever terms the partners negotiated at formation. Dividing total business profit by each partner's percentage share yields that partner's dollar allocation for the period.

This allocation matters beyond just cash distribution: in the U.S., partnership profit shares typically flow through to each partner's personal tax return via a Schedule K-1, regardless of whether the profit was actually distributed in cash or retained in the business, so getting the split right affects each partner's tax liability directly. This calculator takes the total business profit and each partner's ownership percentage to compute exactly what each partner is owed.
