About this calculator

The mid-parental height method is the classic clinical formula for estimating a child's likely adult height from the parents' heights: for a boy, (father's height + mother's height + 13 cm) ÷ 2; for a girl, (father's height + mother's height − 13 cm) ÷ 2. The 13 cm adjustment accounts for the average male-female adult height gap, and the method carries a typical error margin of about ±8.5 cm (one standard deviation), since it ignores nutrition, health conditions, and the child's own growth trajectory.

Pediatricians and pediatric endocrinologists use this estimate as a rough baseline to compare against a child's actual growth curve, most often when investigating whether unusually short or tall stature warrants further evaluation for a growth disorder.
