About this calculator

The calendar quarter for any date is determined purely by its month (January–March = Q1, April–June = Q2, and so on), but the fiscal quarter depends on when an organization's fiscal year begins — a company with an October 1 fiscal-year start (like the U.S. federal government) has its Q1 running October through December, offsetting every quarter by three months relative to the calendar year.

This calculator takes a date plus your fiscal-year start month and returns both figures at once. Accountants, financial analysts, and business owners use it when reconciling reporting periods across organizations with different fiscal-year conventions, or when preparing quarterly filings and board reports that must reference the correct fiscal — not calendar — quarter.
