About this calculator

On a rowing ergometer, effort is usually expressed as a 500m split — the time it would take to cover 500 meters at your current pace. Because pace and distance scale together, total distance covered in a workout follows directly from that split and the total time rowed: distance = (workout duration ÷ split time per 500m) × 500.

Rowers and coaches use this relationship constantly on machines like the Concept2 PM5, which displays split and time but not always the exact projected distance for a planned interval. Knowing the distance a given split will produce over, say, a 20-minute piece lets athletes design workouts around a target meterage, compare interval sessions of different lengths on equal footing, and pace steady-state pieces without staring at a live distance counter.

Enter your 500m split and your total rowing duration, and this calculator converts that pace directly into total meters covered.
