About this calculator
An SBA loan is a small-business loan issued by a bank or approved lender and partially guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration, with the flagship SBA 7(a) program being the most common — used for working capital, equipment, real estate, or business acquisition. Because the SBA guarantees a large portion of the loan (up to 85% on smaller loans) if the borrower defaults, lenders can offer more favorable rates and longer terms than a conventional business loan, but in exchange the borrower pays a guarantee fee (a percentage of the guaranteed portion, scaled by loan size) that is typically financed into the loan balance rather than paid up front.
Small-business owners and their accountants or SBA-preferred lenders use this calculation when evaluating an SBA loan offer, since the guarantee fee — often overlooked when comparing a headline interest rate against a conventional loan — increases the effective loan balance and therefore the monthly payment, so an accurate comparison needs to fold the fee into the payment estimate rather than treat it as a separate line item.
This calculator takes your loan amount, interest rate, term, and the applicable SBA guarantee fee percentage, finances the fee into the loan balance, and returns your estimated monthly payment.
