About this calculator

In the United States, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires non-exempt employees to be paid at least 1.5× their regular hourly rate — “time-and-a-half” — for every hour worked beyond 40 in a workweek. Total pay for the week is (regular hours × hourly rate) + (overtime hours × hourly rate × OT multiplier), where the multiplier is usually 1.5 but can be 2.0 (“double time”) for holidays or under some state and union rules.

Payroll clerks, hourly workers checking their paycheck, and small-business owners budgeting labor costs all use this math constantly — a single missed multiplier on a 50-hour week can mean tens of dollars of shortfall per employee, which adds up fast across a whole shift. Some states, like California, also apply daily overtime rules (over 8 hours in a day) on top of the weekly 40-hour threshold, so the actual OT owed can vary by jurisdiction.

This calculator takes your regular hours, hourly rate and overtime multiplier and returns the overtime pay, regular pay and total gross pay for the week in one step.
