About this calculator
Weight is not mass — it's the force gravity exerts on that mass, given by W = m × g, where g is the local surface gravitational acceleration. Since g varies from planet to planet based on each body's mass and radius (Earth's is 9.8 m/s², the Moon's is about 1.62 m/s², roughly a sixth of Earth's, and Jupiter's is about 24.8 m/s², roughly 2.5 times Earth's), the same mass produces a dramatically different weight depending on where it's measured.
This is precisely the calculation behind why astronauts appear to bound across the Moon's surface in Apollo footage and why a Jupiter lander would need to be engineered to withstand far greater structural loads than one bound for Mars — spacecraft and suit designers compute exact surface gravity for every mission target using each body's known mass and radius.
