About this calculator

Charging time for an electric vehicle at home depends on how much energy needs to be added and how fast the charger can deliver it. The energy needed is roughly battery capacity (kWh) × (target % − current %), and the charging power is voltage × amperage × efficiency — a typical Level 2 home charger runs at 240V and 32A, delivering around 7.2 kW before losses.

This calculator divides the energy you need to add by your charger's real-world power output to estimate total charging time in hours. It's useful for EV owners planning overnight charging, deciding whether a 32A or 40A home charger is worth the upgrade, or estimating how a public Level 2 station compares with charging at home.
