About this calculator

This calculator turns an hourly rate and the hours you worked into a full paycheck breakdown. Gross pay is regular hours × hourly rate, plus overtime hours × 1.5 × hourly rate for any time worked beyond 40 hours in a week — the standard “time-and-a-half” rule set by the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for non-exempt employees. Net pay then subtracts a withholding rate to approximate what actually lands in your bank account after federal, state, and payroll taxes.

Because take-home pay depends on more than the sticker hourly rate, hourly workers, freelancers negotiating contracts, and small-business payroll clerks use this kind of estimate to sanity-check a pay stub, plan a budget around a variable schedule, or compare job offers that quote pay differently (for example $20/hr vs. a $40,000 salary). It is an estimate only — actual withholding depends on your W-4 elections, filing status, and local tax rules.
