About this calculator

An NFT royalty is a percentage of a secondary sale price that automatically routes back to the original creator, typically enforced either on-chain through a standard like EIP-2981 or off-chain by the marketplace's own smart contract logic. On top of the creator royalty, the marketplace itself takes a separate cut — commonly around 2.5% on platforms like OpenSea — before the remainder goes to the seller.

Digital artists and Web3 creators rely on royalties as an ongoing revenue stream beyond the initial mint or first sale, since a piece that appreciates and trades hands multiple times can generate meaningful recurring income for the original creator — a mechanism that does not exist for traditional physical or print art resales.

This calculator takes a resale price along with the creator royalty percentage and marketplace fee percentage and returns exactly how much goes to the creator, how much the marketplace keeps, and the net proceeds the seller actually receives.
