About this calculator

Semester GPA is a credit-weighted average: each course's letter grade is converted to grade points on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on, with variations for + / − grades depending on the institution), multiplied by that course's credit hours, and the sum of those quality points is divided by the total credit hours attempted — so a 4-credit course counts twice as much toward the average as a 2-credit course.

This calculator takes each course as a credits-and-grade pair and returns the resulting semester GPA. College and university students, and academic advisors use it to check standing before final grades post, verify eligibility for financial aid or Dean's List, and see how a hypothetical grade in an in-progress course would move the semester average.
