About this calculator

The modified Bishop score is an obstetric scoring system used to assess how ready (“favorable”) the cervix is for labor induction, summing points across five components — cervical dilation, effacement, fetal station, cervical consistency, and cervical position — each scored on its own small scale, for a total that typically ranges from 0 to 13.

A higher total score indicates a more favorable cervix and generally correlates with a higher likelihood of successful induction leading to vaginal delivery, while a low score often means the cervix needs preparatory (“ripening”) treatment before induction is attempted. Obstetricians and labor-and-delivery clinicians use it as a standard part of the pre-induction assessment alongside other clinical factors. This calculator sums the five component scores you enter into the total modified Bishop score — it is not medical advice and does not replace clinical evaluation.
