About this calculator
Recipe scaling works off a single scaling factor: divide your desired servings by the recipe’s original servings, then multiply every ingredient amount by that factor. A recipe written for 4 that needs to feed 10 gets multiplied by 2.5, so 2 cups of flour becomes 5 cups and 1 teaspoon of salt becomes 2.5 teaspoons.
The math is simple, but doing it by hand for a dozen ingredients — especially with mixed units like tablespoons, ounces and fractions — is where mistakes creep in. Home cooks lean on it when doubling a dinner for guests or halving a dessert for two, and caterers and meal-prep cooks use the same ratio to size a base recipe up to batch quantities. Note that scaling doesn’t always hold perfectly for leavening agents, spices and baking times, which often need adjusting by taste rather than strict proportion.
This calculator applies the scaling factor to a single ingredient amount at a time, so you can quickly convert an entire ingredient list without reaching for a calculator app.
