About this calculator

The scaling ratio is target servings ÷ original servings, and the scaled total cost is original ingredient cost × scaling ratio; dividing that scaled total by the target servings gives the cost per serving, which usually stays flat since ingredients scale proportionally.

Home cooks doubling or tripling a recipe, and caterers, bakers, and small food businesses quoting a batch for a specific headcount, use this to scale both the ingredient list and the true cost together, avoiding the common mistake of scaling quantities without re-checking whether the total cost (and price charged) still makes sense at the new batch size.
